Watchdog Responds to Eye-Popping Super PAC Reports

July 31, 2015 | Laura Friedenbach

Washington, D.C.—Campaign-finance watchdog Every Voice released the following statement on the eye-popping super PAC reports being filed today.

“The hobby of choice for the country’s wealthiest people has turned from yacht-racing to bankrolling their choice for president. These fundraising numbers are like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Today’s revelations will just make voter cynicism about politics even worse. How will candidates convince voters they aren’t beholden to $10 million donors?” said David Donnelly, president and CEO of Every Voice.

“Several candidates have spoken on the campaign trail about the problem of big money’s influence on politics, but if they want voters to take them seriously, they’ll offer a bold, comprehensive plan to raise the voices of everyday people.”

Recently, Every Voice joined 11 other money-in-politics groups in releasing, Fighting Big Money, Empowering People: A 21st Century Democracy Agenda, a comprehensive policy platform to reduce the influence of money in politics and empower people to have a real voice in our democracy. It provides candidates with a roadmap to take Americans’ cynicism about the money in politics problem head-on and credibly engage voters on solutions in their campaigns.
