Every Voice Responds to Trump’s Executive Order on Lobbying

January 28, 2017 | Adam Smith

Washington, D.C.—Donald Trump’s executive order on lobbying is a small, inadequate step to “drain the swamp” in Washington when put in context of the actions his administration has already taken to give access and influence to big donors and his attacks on our country’s democratic values, according to money-in-politics watchdog Every Voice.

Statement from David Donnelly, president and CEO of Every Voice:

“At his inauguration, Donald Trump cozied up to the same big donors that he once ridiculed on the campaign trail. He’s filling his cabinet with billionaires and big donors and ensured the president of Goldman Sachs got a giant golden parachute to join his administration. He failed to adequately address the serious conflicts of interests facing his presidency, putting a cloud of corruption over every decision he makes. His lies about voter fraud and his attacks on Muslims and immigrants are unacceptable in a democratic society. So, this minor action to address the power of lobbyists looks pretty insignificant. It’s a small step, but he has a long way to go if he really wants to give everyday people a bigger voice in our elections and be a president for all Americans.”
