Broad, Bipartisan Majority of Americans Support Overhaul of Political System

June 2, 2015 | Adam Smith

Washington, D.C.–National campaign finance watchdog Every Voice has released the following statement on today’s New York Times/CBS News poll showing broad dissatisfaction with our current campaign finance system and large, bipartisan support for efforts to raise the voices of everyday people in politics.

Statement from President and CEO David Donnelly:

“The daily stories of politicians prostrating themselves in front of the country’s wealthiest people has deepened Americans’ cynicism about campaigns and our government. Vast majorities of Americans from all political stripes know the problem but remain unconvinced that elected officials will produce the root-and-branch overhaul our campaign finance system needs. This is an extraordinary opportunity for unparalleled leadership for a presidential candidate of either party to make this case to a ready public. But to do so they must offer more than platitudes, platforms, or pillars; this poll clearly shows the opening for a presidential candidate to rebuild trust by promising bold action, not simply offering more words.”

Every Voice and Every Voice Center have recently come under new leadership. We will be expanding and diversifying our efforts to promote a democracy that works for all of us and responds to the voices of everyday people. Watch this space for specifics later in 2019.
