Every Voice Expands Political Team to Lay the Groundwork for 2016 Wins

February 12, 2016 | Laura Friedenbach

Washington, D.C.—Money-in-politics reform group Every Voice has added significant staff power to its political team this year to build on the momentum of last November’s ballot initiative victories in Maine and Seattle and to win money-in-politics reforms in more places in 2016 and beyond.

“These talented additions to our team will play a big role in continuing to build momentum for reforms nationwide aimed creating a democracy that works for all of us,” said Every Voice National Political Director Jeff Robinson.

“Last year voters in Maine and Seattle proved that states and cities aren’t waiting on Washington to fix our broken campaign finance system,” said Every Voice President and CEO David Donnelly. “As our political team grows, we look forward to working with people in states and cities across the country who are coming together to fight back against big money in our elections.”

In 2015, voters in Maine and Seattle overwhelmingly supported ballot initiatives to reign in the influence of wealthy special interests in elections with small-donor driven solutions to empower everyday people, not big donors. More campaigns aimed at reducing the influence of money in politics are in the works for 2016.

New additions to Every Voice’s political team include:

Josh Levin, will serve as Senior Political Campaign Strategist for Every Voice, playing an integral role providing technical assistance to our ballot measure campaigns. Josh has over 15 years of experience in the electoral and advocacy arena, including as Vice President at the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC), and as campaign manager for initiative, legislative and candidate campaigns around the country.

Elizabeth Lucas, will serve as a Senior Strategic Consultant for Every Voice’s political and ballot measure team. Her work will include planning and assessment of ballot measure opportunities, developing and assisting 2016 campaign plans, and building in-state coalition relations. Elizabeth brings over a decade of experience in ballot measure and candidate campaigns to our team. From 2012-2015 Elizabeth was the Political Director at BISC. Prior to her work at BISC, Elizabeth was the Ohio Democratic Party’s Field Director for the SB5 Campaign, a ballot measure campaign to repeal legislation that limited collective bargaining rights for Ohio’s teachers, police, and firefighters.  Elizabeth also served for two years as the OFA Pennsylvania State Director for the DNC.

Susan Mottet will serve as Senior Legislative Campaign Strategist, working on legislative campaigns to advance small-donor public financing victories at the state and local level and ensure the successful implementation of recently passed or updated systems. She will also oversee Every Voice’s “Champions” program of elected officials advocating for democracy issues in their states and Congress. Susan brings to Every Voice more than 10 years of experience in federal, state, and local policy and politics – from inside of government and as an advocate.
