Every Voice: President Obama should turn powerful words into immediate action

January 13, 2016 | Adam Smith

Washington, D.C. — Money-in-politics watchdog Every Voice released the following statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address:

“President Obama is right that when the wealthy have too much influence, and everyone else too little, our democracy is not working. A broad majority of Americans would agree—and he can do more in his final year in office to move us toward a system that works for everyone,” said David Donnelly, President and CEO of Every Voice. “In the short term, the president should sign an executive order bringing much needed light to the ways government contractors try to influence our elections. In the long-term, as he travels the country to push for the reforms he mentioned tonight, he should talk about the ways in which Americans around the country—from Maine to Seattle and Arizona to Miami—are coming together to fight for a democracy that works for all of us.”
