If Guilty of Selling Favors for Donations, Sen. Menendez Must Be Held Accountable.

March 6, 2015 | Adam Smith

Washington, D.C.—Campaign finance watchdog Every Voice released the following statement on news that the Department of Justice is preparing to indict Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) on corruption charges.

“If Sen. Menendez sold favors for campaign donations, he must be held accountable,” said David Donnelly, president of Every Voice. “And you can bet with the dramatic increase in campaign cash in the last few cycles, he definitely won’t be the last member of Congress facing prosecution. It’s time for Congress to address our broken system with legislation like the Government By the People Act that would give everyday people a bigger voice in politics, instead of relying on a small set of wealthy donors who want something in return.”
