Million Dollar Ad Campaign Launches to Urge Gov. Cuomo and State Legislature to Pass Fair Elections
Washington, DC–Public Campaign Action Fund announced a four-week $1 million television and online ad campaign across New York State highlighting the need to pass Fair Elections for all state races, as proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The ad, “Liberty,” is available online at www.cleanupalbany.com.
“Everyone knows Albany is broken and everyone knows that Fair Elections is the solution,” said David Donnelly, executive director of Public Campaign Action Fund and a member of the Fair Elections for New York campaign. “The time for rhetoric is over. The Governor and the legislature must pass Fair Elections to clean up Albany and raise up the voices of everyday people in our political process.”
The first television ad, which begins airing Monday, has footage of restoration of the Statue of Liberty as narrators say, “Broken. Corroded. Polluted. New York state elections are in the same condition the Statue of Liberty once was, because big money interests are drowning out the voices of ordinary voters. It took four years to restore Lady Liberty, so how long will it take to clean up our state elections?”
A woman answers, “One day,” followed by video of the state capital building. It ends, “Help pass Governor Cuomo’s Fair Elections proposal. Put everyday New Yorkers back in charge again.”
The ad will air on stations in the Buffalo, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Albany, and New York City markets. The ad will be complemented with web and mobile advertising directing people to www.cleanupalbany.com.
Gov. Cuomo recently included the proposal to create a public matching fund system for all statewide and state legislative races in his budget. Based on the successful New York City system, the proposal would reduce the influence of big money campaign donors and give ordinary New Yorkers a bigger voice in the political process.
