Every Voice Statement on Nomination of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General
Washington, D.C. — Following President-elect Trump’s selection of Senator Jeff Sessions for attorney general, money-in-politics reform group Every Voice released the following statement:
“With the decision to nominate Senator Jeff Sessions to the Attorney General, President-elect Trump once again failed to signal that he’s serious about ‘draining the swamp,’” said David Donnelly, president and CEO of Every Voice. “Sessions is a long-time ‘creature’ of the swamp who has raised more than $18 million in campaign contributions over his career representing a who’s who of corporate interests in every sector. As a result, as attorney general he would likely be confronted with conflict-of-interest concerns in dozens of investigations and legal actions. Moreover, the nomination of Sessions, with his history of racially-charged comments and support for gutting of the Voting Rights Act, sends exactly the wrong message to Americans of all backgrounds who are concerned that Trump will govern with the same divisiveness he exhibited on the campaign trail.”
