PCAF Applauds MayDay PAC on Reaching $5M Fundraising Goal
Washington, D.C.—Fifty thousand donors helped Professor Lawrence Lessig and his MayDay PAC raise $5 million in the past month, a clear sign of the power of Lessig’s message that, together, we can create a political system that works for everyday people, not just big money campaign donors.
“The American people think their elected officials have left them behind for lobbyists and big money donors and 50,000 of them just gave $5 million to fight for a system that makes every voice matter,” said David Donnelly, executive director of Public Campaign Action Fund and co-founder of Friends of Democracy. “We look forward to working with MayDay PAC to raise up those candidates who champion comprehensive reform of our big money system and to hold accountable those politicians defending the status quo.”
Friends of Democracy was founded in 2012 with a similar mission to MayDay PAC, to use the electoral process to support champions of solutions to our broken campaign finance system and defeat those politicians defending the status quo. In 2012, eight of the nine candidates Friends of Democracy PAC targeted for defeat lost their races.
