President Trump Threatens Our Democracy With Claims of Voter Fraud and Targeting of Immigrants

January 25, 2017 | Laura Friedenbach

Washington, D.C. — Following President Donald Trump’s false claims about voter fraud and reports of his planned executive orders targeting immigrants and refugees, money-in-politics reform group Every Voice said these actions attack our democracy and undermine our American values.

Statement from Nick Nyhart, founding executive at Every Voice:

“President Donald Trump’s false claims about voter fraud are an indefensible attack on the truth, our democracy, and the rights of Americans to make their voices heard in our elections. That he repeated this dangerous claim on the same day that the president is reportedly signing executive orders targeting Muslims, refugees, and immigrants provides further evidence that the president does not intend to be a president for all of us. These actions could lead to further erosion of our right to vote and the targeting of people based on their religion, ethnicity, or race.

“These attacks are part of a larger pattern of silencing dissent while giving power to the wealthy and well-connected. Politicians of all political stripes—especially his fellow Republicans—should repudiate these actions in the strongest terms. Instead of making it harder to vote or kicking people out of this country, we should be focused on policies that bring people together and increase equitable participation in our political system.”
